Recipes With Hummus
Hummus is a very versatile and tasty food. As such, there are many recipes with hummus in them. For those of you who are not familiar with hummus, basically you are talking about pureed chickpeas with some olive oil and lemon and often garlic. Anyway, this tasty spread can fit into many a recipe.
Most often, hummus is served on a plate with toasted pita bread and grilled vegetables. Hummus is a great complement to a wide variety of breads, crackers, vegetables, both grilled and raw and as a side dish.
There are many other recipes that would benefit from the addition of hummus to the mix. An example of that would be the humble pizza. Here’s how to make a pizza with hummus. Simply buy a package of pizza dough from the supermarket and spread it out like you would a traditional pizza.
Now, instead of spreading tomato sauce on the dough, spread your favorite flavor of hummus spread on it. Then, cover it with a delicious assortment of grilled vegetables and meats. My favorites are grilled eggplants, tomatoes, onions and peppers. I also like to add shredded grilled chicken to the mix as this adds some great flavor.
If you are a cheese lover, then I would suggest adding some mozzarella cheese and for a bit of zing, add some parmesan on top. Now you have the makings of a delicious hummus-based pizza recipe. Put that in the oven until golden brown and serve piping hot.
Another recipe that could benefit from the addition of hummus is any sandwich recipe. Just like the pizza recipe above, imagine a panini sandwich with grilled vegetables, grilled chicken, some cheese (here we can use swiss, cheddar, mozzarella, or any of your personal favorites) and hummus.
You can also add hummus to salads, casseroles, pretty much any dish that can benefit from this versatile spread. As such, there are many recipes with hummus that you can try and enjoy.
